Top 5 Shows Of ALL Time
despite being ill on Friday, i managed to yank myself together for a show i was definitely not going to miss (unlike Slayer Friday night). there has been so much hype about the band Arcade Fire that you might dismiss them as the next hot thing (see Scissor Sisters). but i’m here 2 tell you, there’s something else. the after world. a world of never ending happiness. u can always see the sun, day or night.
uh, sorry. that happens sometimes. i’m actually here to tell you that you should not be dissuaded by the hype. this band is the real deal. they played an early, all-ages show at Neumo’s with openers Chuck Prophet and Earlimart. we missed both opening bands (hey, we’re too old to mess w/opening bands) and managed to arrive right before Arcade Fire took the stage. from the moment they walked out, the intensity and energy of the band and the audience was incredible. we definitely savored the possibility of it being the one and only time we’ll be seeing them in such a small club. they were gracious between songs, thanking KEXP and noting that “you have no idea how fucking bizarre it is to play a sold out show in Seattle” as it was their first visit to the city. at one point there were motorcycle helmets and drumsticks flying everywhere. they played most of their album Funeral and started their encore with a cover of Talking Heads This Must Be The Place.
and when it was all over, we were sorry to see them go. you know those shows that just suck and 2 minute songs seem to stretch over a torturous eternity? this was the opposite. the show ended and i was thinking ‘that’s it??’ we walked outside to chat before dispersing and had the opportunity to give the ubiquitous ‘good show’ to Win Butler as he walked by when what i really wanted to say was ‘great fucking show. one of the top 5 shows i’ve ever seen, easily’. alas, that’s a lot to say when someone is walking by with a destination in mind. hmm … maybe next time. their site says they are working on tacking on more tour dates. do yourself a favor and see this band!

Yay! I’m glad you felt the same way. I was lucky enough to see them last month, and I’m ready to see them again. And I wouldn’t mind going elsewhere to do so.

now all we need is for them to come back to either Minn or Seattle!
