Top 5 Best-Worst Movies Of All Time
remember way back when, i said i liked to make lists? well, this past year i haven’t been living up to that claim so i’ve added it as one of the 2005 resolutions.
over lunch today my co-workers started a conversation of movies you are glad you saw because they were brilliant in their own ways, but that you never want to see again. now i should preface with when i say ‘brilliant’ i just mean really innovative and creative (in my humble opinion).
1. Dancer In The Dark - when i walked out of the theatre, there was a survey person standing outside asking what we thought of it. my response was my mouth in the shape of an O. i couldn’t manage a word and i don’t think Ikke and i spoke the entire way home.
2. Requiem For A Dream - i don’t ever want to see this movie again, ever. traumatized would be a good word for how i felt afterwards.
3. Irreversible - i still can’t really wrap my head around how they managed to film this backwards. you might think Memento, but really it was done in a different and really interesting way. admittedly, there is a portion of this movie i didn’t and never will see. once you see it (or if you have), i’m sure you’ll know what i mean.
4. Bad Lieutenant - Harvey Keitel is such an exhibitionist, he loves to flaunt that beefy ass. just thinking about this movie makes me want to take a shower to wash away the cop car/girl scene. ew. ew. ew.
5. The Audition - now i didn’t really think this movie was brilliant. i actually thought it was a little transparent, spending lots of time setting up the innocence and seeming purity of this poor girl. but i did think it was disgusting in a slightly alarming sort of way.
how’s that to brighten your day? an honorable mention might be The Pianist, made worse by the fact that i’d read the book prior to seeing the movie and kept cringing in anticipation of what was going to happen. Dead Alive might be one as well. as much as i love it, i really have to be in the right frame of mind for it (i.e. not eating). wait, i guess that doesn’t count because i’ve seen it a million times. nevermind. i’m sure there are many more, but i can’t think of them right now. i’m still trying to get rid of the Bad Lieutant flashbacks. happy thoughts, Fraggles, puppies ….

Heehee, Fraggles.
As for Irreversible, I’ve completely avoided it altogether because of that which shall not be named. But it sucks, because a) I’ve been curious about the filming backwards thing and b) Monica Bellucci is one of my favorite actresses. Oh well.

as with ‘the scene’ and all scenes of that nature, i muted and had Mark ff thru and let me know when it was over so i could resume.

You should make a list of films that are downright terrible, but you like anyhow.
