Time Is On My Side

Posted on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 in thoughts

i just bought a new watch yesterday for the reason people usually buy new watches … the battery died in my old one. and as i examined the 5-7 other watches i have, i realized that none of the watches i own have numbers (except for the totally worthless Baby G-Shock that is out of commission due to excessively expensive batteries to power the little figure that breakdances to disco tunes). my new watch looks like this, but not really. it’s light blue with a different pattern on it. i really need to get batteries for those other watches.

  1. i have a steel g-shock that i bought many years ago when i lived in new york. okay, i bought it about five years ago. the battery died almost a year ago. i swear, it took me until two months ago to get a new battery in it. in the meantime, like you, i got another watch.

what is it with watch batteries that make us unable to get them changed?

i went to one place and they took it but couldn’t do it. so it was another three months until i took it to one of those watch repair kiosks in the mall (maybe it’s an iowa thing) and it took five minutes and $10.
