The Lost Post

Posted on Saturday, March 20, 2004 in thoughts

i just spent lots of time typing a big fat post when Safari barfed or as other people like to call it “unexpectedly quit”. is it really necessary to say that? of course it’s unexpected, it’s not as if i was waiting for it to happen. perhaps the developers felt using a polite phrase might make the whole thing less insulting? of course i’m insulted, i’m trying to talk here and it’s as if Safari just walked out of the room. and now this post is ranting about that instead of the semi-interesting items i was writing about such as Bumbershoot, Dawn Of The Dead, my parents visit, random cyclonic housecleaning and houses.

but instead i just decided to post this instead until i can focus and re-type the other one. sheesh.

  1. yeah, i hate that. fuckers.

even though quits happen so infrequently, they’ve made me paranoid enough that if i’m writing a long post, i’ll usually type it up in bbedit and then paste it into typepad later. plus you get to take advantage of bbedit’s html tools.

  2. i have been using ecto for precisely that reason. but i don’t usually have too many problems with safari, but it seems like when you do it’s always at the worst possible time.

  3. the thing is that i’ve been using Ecto to, but had logged in to check something else and thought i might as well! Safari hardly ever does this to me, but i’ve now learned my lesson (again).

  4. So many posts have been lost this way. That is why the draft option in Typepad has become my friend.

    *sob*

It is our job to be diligent, and make sure that posts don’t needlessly disappear in the future. If it weren’t for those damn Republicans stuff like this wouldn’t happen!
