Summer Reading

while i usually read voraciously, this summer my brain seems to be on vacation. i bought Bill Clinton’s book right when it came out and enjoyed it from the beginning, but still i find myself reading only intermittently. each night it seems all of a sudden it’s already 8:30pm and i’m just sitting down to take a break from the day. my excuse for reading this summer is that every book i pick up is seemingly a fall or winter book (Mark wonders how that could be possible). and i began to think, exactly what is a summer book? i’m not sure. and somehow as i wandered about in my thoughts, i began to wish that Haruki Murakami would have a new book soon (tomorrow would be nice) with Jay Rubin translating. his books seem to fit every season and always leave me with the same refreshing feeling and a sushi-like craving for more.

  • All I read this summer was David Sedaris’ latest… kinda sad.

I read a few comics too.

  • You thought Sedaris was said? Me, funny! I’ve read a lot of music books lately, books on Elliott Smith, Bob Dylan, Jim Morrisson, and some others. Getting ready to delve into that John Fante book I bought in Seattle (if I can find it). Also Heather has a couple that she bought that I’ll prob. take a crack at.

  • this summer i have only managed the new york trilogy by paul auster, but i am going on a long bus journey this weekend so i hope to read an entire book then.

  • No, it wasn’t a sad book, but it’s kinda sad that’s all I read.
