Spoooky
there’s nothing better than friends who love Halloween just as much as you do! IMed with H yesterday about our movie agenda and had a lovely conversation with D this evening. she gave me the tip on tons of old horror flicks she found in the dollar area at Target (an area i had dismissed due to happy, friendly pumpkin lamps). i’ll definitely need to head back to see what i can pick up! she also recommended The Grudge website (for the American version) which i found to be creepy in a very, very good and interactive way! there’s also a site for Ju-on but the information seemed a little dated.
and per Ms. D’s request, my top 10 horror movies of all time (i know, i know but it’s worth repeating!). i encourage you to include your own top 10 in the comments. i’m always looking for recommendations:
- Prince Of Darkness: i love movies that are based on the idea that the church is hiding something.
- 28 Days Later: Cilian Murphy is fantastic and the most frightening idea ever … that zombies can run! i don’t stand a chance.
- Dawn Of The Dead / Day Of The Dead: both are equally good.
- Se7en: not the best dialogue but it still looked so good.
- Motel Hell: who wants a pig head mask?
- Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things: i know this is cheesy, but it’s so thriller double feature.
- Evil Dead: of course. Sam Raimi sure has come a long, long way.
- House Of Wax: Vincent Price was so amazing.
- From Beyond: the master Lucio Fulci
- The Shining: Shelly Long is much creepier here than in Fairytale Theater
Honorable Mentions
The Changeling: George C. Scott is scarrrry.
The Brain That Wouldn’t Die: so it’s kitschy and not scary. the woman’s head lived on a cookie sheet for pete’s sake.
Dead Alive: i kick ass for the lord.
Hellraiser I, II and III: i loved these.
Dracula: again, not scary but it looked good.
Basket Case I and II: yes, yes. it’s silly.
The Amityville Horror: the sole reason we never lived in that style of house.
The Evil: one of the first (if not the first) movies i saw. it scared the pants off of me. i was only 5!)
The Ring / Ringu
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: this movie still makes me cringe.
and more and more and more!

My list changes depending on if I’m in a Zombie or Vampire mood..but here we go! BTW - Shelly Duvall was in the Shining (Shell Long is from Cheers)
1) Return of the Living Dead - Punk Rock and Comic Book style gore. Can’t beat it. Hands down the best!
2) Dawn of the Dead/Day of the Dead - Nothing like that feeling of hopeless doom to end a movie on a high note.
3) Bram Stoker’s Dracula - Gothic Gary Oldman. If only Keanu Reeves could have been killed!
4) Zombie - Lucio Fulci classic! Zombie vs Shark fight scene, who will win? Other Fulci must sees - Gates of Hell, The Beyond.
5) Halloween/Friday the 13th - I admit, I’ve a weakness for cheap slasher flicks. Mine as well throw Nightmare on Elm Street too.
6) Texas Chainsaw Massacer - Crrreeeeppppyyyy
7) Evil Dead 1 & 2 - More zombarific horror. Bruce Campbell rocks.
Re-Animator - Decapated Corpse on the rampage. Excellent gore. Great story line too.
9) Carrie - This movie scared the bejesus out of me. Still does.
10) Excorcist - Creepy child and preist. Need I say more?

how funny is that? i totally didn’t realize that i made that mistake and neither did anyone else … well, except Heather. BTW Shelly Long is scary, but in a completely different way. Remember the ‘I Heart Shelly Long’ bumper sticker that we couldn’t figure out whether it was meant to be funny or creepy?
