remember a long, long time ago when i kept saying i’ve been working on moving off of Typepad onto a different host? i swear unlike some of what i say, this is actually true. it’s just that (here comes the excuse) it is hard to work all day on mind numbing, brain crunching software design and then come home to get on my computer and code/design/etc. with that said, i have three sites in the works right now and i’ve been trying to work on them concurrently. not such a great decision, but i digress.

the first is my own personal site. it’s secret. sssh. it’s so secret, i can’t even tell you what the domain name is. the second is a fan site of sorts for three lovely ladies whose music i admire: Neko Case, Carolyn Mark and Kelly Hogan. and finally the third is a bit more serious and is my first crack at powering a site with PHP and MySQL behind it (well coding it from scratch that is).

i knew i didn’t want to code my site from scratch. i’d much rather be writing than coding (besides i’m not super-coder or anything like that). i had the prospects narrowed down between Movable Type and Wordpress. i was leaning towards Movable Type because i do love Typepad, but the promise of a 5 minute install from Wordpress lured me right in. so far so good. while searching for a template to use until i had the time to create my own, i came across Francey’s site chocked full of clean, lovely templates, scripts and lots of other goodies. the nice thing about it is not only are the templates free and easy to use (just enter your info and a customized template is auto generated for you) but she mixes her love of music with her love of design/coding. she supports templates for Wordpress, MT, Blogger, Diaryland, etc. so check it out if you are in need of a swank template!

did you see what i just did there? i used posting as an excuse to procrastinate and not work on the sites. tricksy, precious.
