Random Bits or Holy S!*t, It’s Snowing AGAIN!
It’s not supposed to snow this much in Seattle … then again, we live a hair inside the convergence zone so it very well may be that two blocks over (Seattle proper, in fact) it’s not snowing at all. When I moved here a decade ago it reliably snowed one single day a year and then it would promptly melt hours later. At the beginning of the year, we had a 3-4 day snow (or as the news liked to call it SNOW STORM 2007) and here we are again (though this looks more like dandruff). Mind you, I’m not complaining. I just think it’s a bit odd. Damn climate changes.
I’ve spent this morning drinking hot cocoa (we’re out of coffee, meh) and reading Dooce and then her husband’s eloquent post on living with someone who has depression. And I’ve had thoughts brewing and stewing in my mind for quite some time now on the topic of depression (and more specifically post-partum depression) but, today … I just don’t feel like it. So instead, I’ll gush about my trip to my two favorite bookstores (Kinokuniya and Elliott Bay Booksellers). where I picked up these two books.
Kinokuniya had a fantastic selection of Japanese craft books. So many in fact that it was difficult decide between cute crochet animals and weird felted creatures and bags. I settled on a book full of crochet animals that seem pretty quick to whip up. I did my best effort to ignore the selection of pens, notebooks and adorable accessories I really don’t need. Success! Afterwards, I trotted on over to my favorite bookstore on the planet … Elliott Bay where I picked up a book for the boy. It might be the coolest book EVER. Do you see that horse on the cover? When you move the pages, the horse gallops! Yes, that’s what I said. It gallops. It’s really brilliant and highly recommend.
And now, off for the post office to send tardy gifts. And then off to a friend’s house for a little post-xmas gathering. And then off to celebrate Mark’s last day!
