Only In Canada

yesterday evening, i was watching the CBC news. we often watch partially to get a different take on the world events and the perspective outside the spin machine that the White House is and partially because we like to know what’s happening in Canada. thank goodness even though we have sub-par cable (it’s not even considered Basic), we still get the iChannel and CBC. anyway, only in Canada would a huge portion of the news coverage be about the NHL playoffs. i enjoy it because it’s the one sport i really love. and with Mariner’s season beginning i am preparing myself for the domination baseball has over our own local news.

a sample of the stories centered around the games? the mayors of Vancouver and Calgary have a bet on who wins the cup (the bet consists of the loser appearing in a parade in the opponent’s town), the biggest Canucks and Flames fans and ongoing Towel Power contest (if you don’t know, nevermind).

and in between the news i might see my favorite Kokanee commercial. it’s the one about a disguised bear and a ranger. it makes me laugh every time i see it.
