Music Night In Canada

add this to the list of music i need to have a listen to. the band is Manitoba and the release is Up In Flames. i haven’t heard this band, but a friend of mine says it’s right up my alley. although the album was released in March of this year, i hadn’t heard much about it. Pop Matters’ Adrien Begrand picks it for their Best Music of 2003 list.

Canadian laptop whiz Dan Snaith has crafted a deeply layered cut-and-paste collage that sounds equal parts Flaming Lips, Boards of Canada, and My Bloody Valentine, a euphoric, giddy, 39-minute experience that reveals something new every time you hear it.

Begrand also covered the album earlier in the year comparing them to My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless and brazenly stating that Dan Snaith “makes Radiohead look like a bunch of tuneless novices …”. . they are heavily compared to Boards of Canada.
