Music Again?

Posted on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 in sonica

A belated thanks to Dan way back at the beginning of April to confirm that the Faunts indeed signed to Friendly Fire and are due to release an album later this summer. In the meantime, you’ll just have to be content with hanging out at the site and listening to Memories of Places We’ve Never Been. The music is so mellow, but not sedate. Or at least, so far as I can tell.

You know I love me some Pedro The Lion. Besides the rough, emotive voice of David Bazan, the music is so damn catchy. The other day I heard a song from his side project, a band called the Headphones with Tim Walsh (also of PTL) and Frank Lenz (of Starflyer 59). Although Bazan’s voice is unmistakeable, the vocals were over some seemingly lo-grade electronica. I can’t remember for sure. But I did want to hear more. Allegedly, you can download a song from Pure Volume to try them on for size. I say allegedly because I had no success in getting the page to load and you know I can’t wait all day for a downed server or poorly designed page. Sheesh. (Somehow, I bet that remark is going to bite me in the ass one day soon)

And the funniest/dorky album title name goes to … Paul Westerberg with Besterberg: The Best of Paul Westerberg. Come on now, that’s a little funny!

On a random note, a friend of mine sent a little meme titled Favorite Bands No Longer Together and I kid you not someone had Skid Row on that list and I DON’T THINK THEY WERE KIDDING. Also, Mr. Bungle was on that list from, yep, a guy! Which just goes to further my theory that Mr. Bungle is dude music (disclaimer: I do not use the word ‘dude’ in everyday conversation).

If you haven’t already, you really should check out this article on Dinosaur Jr. and both their lengthy history and importance in the musical landscape.

Remember that band Komeda? I had totally forgotten about them. They are still on good old Minty Fresh. And speaking of, did you know that MF (tee-hee) have a little offshoot label called Mini Fresh dedicated to children’s music? Now, I don’t have any kids, but I have lots of friends with kids and tend to keep an eye out for fresh and interesting things to buy them. I may just have to check out this Ralph and his Fee Fi Fo Fum.

Uh oh, popcorn is done. I must go now because popcorn waits for no one.
