Mr. Show

graphic_mrshowlogobig.gif there used to be a show on HBO called Mr. Show. i hadn’t seen it when it was on, but we do have the three seasons on DVD. i can’t really explain it, other than to say it’s very funny. David Cross is the David in “Bob and David” and i’m sure you’ve heard of him. he’s been on shows like Just Shoot Me and he’s on Arrested Development and does the voice over for that horrible Oliver Beene show (you know, the one where the kid just stands around and lets his cheeks hang?). oh and he was also in Ghost World.

anyway, we went to see him perform at UW last weekend and it was SO funny. there’s nothing like laughing for two hours straight. it’s a very nice release from the day to day stuff. much of his comedy is politically motivated and he is definitely liberal, but he’s equal opportunity and makes fun of pretty much everyone. if you haven’t had a chance to see him, i would highly recommend it.

of course, don’t email me if you are offended by it.

  1. I F’n love Mr. Show! Chuck and I and The Koven, have watched most of the episodes so often that they are a reference for our daily lives. Bob and David have definately influenced our humor. We also had the privelege to meet many in the cast when Mr. Show live was in Minneapolis a year or so ago. David, a bit of an asshole, but a very funny one, and Bob is just a peach of a guy. John Ennis was by far the nicest and most helpful guy, he even tried to give us some real-life advice. Many, many happy hours of viewing to you!

  2. I missed that Mr. Show show at First Ave (was having a bbq that I now wish I’d rescheduled), but I am a big fan. And David Cross does often push the limits, but he gets away with it because he’s so freaking hilarious. His album “Shut Up You F**king Baby!” had me laughing until I was crying. I don’t drink, but last August those boys put on the Tinkle Booze Cruise[*], which, I’m guessing, must have been a blast.
