Mr. Dobalina, Mr. Bob Dobalina

Sing it.

We used to sing it but we’d replace the words with a friend’s name. There’s just something satisfying about that combination.

Speaking of said names that rhyme with Bob Dobalina … my bestest friend H came into town last week for a visit with the boy and (as she pointed out) the title of Best Best Friend because she’s been out to visit three (count ‘em, three!) times (which beats out anyone else non-family). The visit was quick but we made the absolute best of it. I honestly can’t recall the last time we’d had just pure girl time as we’ve lived in different states for a decade. Girl time, good. (The last visit to MA doesn’t count because of my horrible flu and a delirius tour of this castle).

You know that friend you meet and immediately fall in love with? It’s as if you just can’t get enough of hanging out and laughing? And maybe you annoy other people just a little bit because you think you’re hilarious together in a way that no one else seems to get? That’s H for me. When we met, we clicked instantly. She introduced me to important things like The Smiths, La Shish (trust me, La Shish is important), William James and not to mention that special Italian bread, cheese and salami. Things that have stuck with me. Besides those sorts of things, she’s smart, funny, supportive, loyal and grounded. Oh and she’s training for a Marathon. Annoyed yet?

Well now we’ve sealed the BFF deal (as if getting a tattoo I designed for her wasn’t enough). Not only did H come to visit, she changed poo diapers, watched the baby, packed up the stroller, opened doors and in general helped on all fronts (though this was technically a vacation for her). And what’s more … she went to my moms group even though she doesn’t have any kids of her own! In case you mistake my meaning, most people might be bored as well by the prospect of sitting in a room full of babies and breastfeeding. But, she did it and actually paid attention. That’s right folks, best friend EVER.

::sigh:: And now she’s gone … until 2009.

  • You forgot to mention the gorgeous legs (or maybe that’s my job).

Don’t fret. Maybe we’ll come out sooner than 2009. You two can have girl time while Mork, Goo and Tenacious B play with dolls and have tea parties and do all sorts of other sissy, mama’s boy kinds of stuff…

  • Addendum:

Aside from that spooktacular visit to Hammond Castle, the last trip to Mass. was notable because it was when you hipped me to Sam Cooke’s “Night Beat” — a bit of knowledge for which I am eternally grateful.

  • KIM IS THE BESTest friend ever. Serious, you may not believe me but getting to spend quality time with you and D was the perfect way to spend my time off. I’d do it again and again and again.
