Iowa And The Funny Bone
i know this is last week’s news, but i found it funny anyway. the SNL website posted news on the December 5th that WHO-TV in Iowa was choosing not to air the episode hosted by Al Sharpton.
All four NBC television affiliates in the state announced they won’t carry the show because Sharpton is one of nine candidates seeking the Democratic nomination. The selection process begins with the Iowa caucuses Jan. 19.
Tim Gardner, director of creative services at WHO-TV in Des Moines, Iowa, said station lawyers decided that airing the 90-minute show would trigger federal “equal time” provisions - meaning the stations would have to offer an equal amount of air time to each of the other presidential candidates.
what i find most funny is the idea that Sharpton appearing on Saturday Night Live would really impact his campaign. NBC pointed out that they had researched the matter thoroughly to make sure that it was appropriate for him to appear. did they? or is NBC endorsing Al Sharpton? (for anyone who is tempted to email me about that, i’m just kidding).

people in Iowa take the primary season very serious. you’d think they were decided the next president or something.
i thought NBC was endorsing the cast of Friends for president. i hadn’t heard about them endorsing Sharpton, but if they are giving him 90 minutes of free airtime, they must be. I’m surprised your blog is the only to point out this gross violation of election law!
