I’m Crushing Your Head
I’m crushing your head. I’ll give you one guess at what came in the mail from Netflix today. And while on that subject, has anyone noticed a recent lag on the delivery of DVDs? Ah well, either way the alternative is a scam.
Anyway, onto the new music for this week. Maktub has a new (and third) album out titled Say What You Mean. I’ve never been a huge fan of theirs, but you might be. Also new this week, Dig!, the film documenting seven years in the lives of two bands: the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols. It covers the juxtaposition of two former friends, two bands and seemingly two different paths through the stormy seas of the music machine. Oh and I almost forgot, that the new Of Montreal album The Sunlandic Twins is out today. I must confess, I knew/know nothing about this band, having heard a single song after poking around on their site. If I’m counting correctly (and I am not reliable in this area) it looks as though they have around eleven eps and lps out. Wow (does it diminish the ‘wow’ if I don’t end it in an exclamation mark?). I’m planning on giving this album a proper listen.
And it’s been awhile since I’ve gushed talked about anything Nick Cave related. So, here we go … the site has announced New Zealand and Australia tour dates for May. Nick also has some solo dates scheduled for Croatia and Slovenia. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for US dates … ahem … Seattle. And speaking of Bad Seeds, Mick Harvey answers your burning questions on the forum. He also mentions that he has an album due out in late August. I’m not sure whether that is the US release date, but hopefully more details will be released as we get closer in. I’m not sure if its safe to assume it will be on Mute.
The fabulous Mint Records posted two summer dates for their jewel crooner Neko Case. June 18 at Wakarusa Festival in Lawrence, KS and August 24th at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, WA. Disappointed after her Sadies backed show at Neumo’s, we will still be buying tickets for this show. Now what I want to know is when the incomparable Jon Rahouse will be making it up to Seattle (or hell, Portland even!) for a solo show.
Well, that’s that. I’m off for a quick nap and dinner before heading out to see our friend Drew Victor’s at the Tractor Tavern. It’s his last show in Seattle for quite some time. He’s heading out to try his luck in the big city (NYC). We wish him luck and I sure am going to miss his superbly pulled shots.
Happy listening.
p.s. That new Stars is addictive, isn’t it? Set Yourself On Fire is full of lush vocals and a sound that makes me feel like driving with the windows down.

Speaking of Canadians (well sort of. I mean you make reference to the kids in the hall, so i immediately thought of Canada) the NHL playoffs should be starting tonight. Who knows, the way things are going we may be saying the same thing next year at this time.

I can’t wait to hear the new Of Montreal.
Their previous album “Satanic Panic in the Attic” was one of my very faves from yonder year hence past.

Don’t talk about hockey. It’s made me pay attention to other sports that I don’t care about at all. And for that, I am mad at the whole NHL.
Chuck: Thanks for the tip, if it gets the stamp of approval from you then I will definitely check it out!

Keep the music tips coming. I come here to see where it’s at these days, and I am never disappointed.
As an aside, I totally have to add you to my Netflix friends list. And when I say totally, I mean wickedly totally fer sure….dudette.
