Happy Birthday Little Boy
Friday marked the boy’s very first birthday and a whole year we’ve moved from starting out hoping to just keep him alive to wanting to help him satisfy that curiousity for just about everything. Especially, if it barks or is on wheels. If someone could invent a wheely, barking dog who serves bagels and cream cheese, we would be SO golden.
Yesterday we celebrated the birthday with friends and family, hosting a half indoor/half outdoor brunch. Both our parents had flown in to town for the occasion and our closest friends came. Though a mere 15 minutes before I was saturated with the stress of a lack of sleep and chaos the party went very smoothly and a good time was had by all. I’d post video but, as previously noted, the flip is not working. I’d post photos but, I’ve broken up for good with the little point and shoot digital camera we have and only shot with my SLR. Nyeh.
The boy (as always) was a very good sport through all escaping the whole ordeal without a tear. Though he’s always a pretty sunny guy, we were a little concerned that things might be a little overwhelming. But, that was before he smooshed his piece of cake all over his face (and his mother) and we had an impromptu baby shower. He received a whole gaggle of wonderful gifts including many books including the party favorite that I am too lazy to check the title on, but it was something like Touchy, Smelly, Feely … though I don’t think that’s quite right. And when I just searched that very phrase under Books on Amazon, I was returned a book result called Gay, Straight and In-Between. I have to concur, gay people ARE touchy. I digress. He also received cars, trucks and building blocks (three things he enjoys immensely), an Uglydoll and a Skull Bunny. And clothes … very cute clothes.
By the end of the day, we were ALL wiped out and though I had been warned that he would be up all night on a sugar high from the cake he ate, he passed out and was issuing the tiniest little baby snores. Very satisfying sound, I can tell you.
More to come when I’ve had a chance to actually reflect on the fact that we’ve had this wonderful boy a whole year. Light of our lives, seriously. And I don’t mean that in a Debbie Boone kind of way. If you don’t know who she is, I don’t blame you. I only know because my mom tells me I used to sing that song when I was a very little girl (and too young to know it’s a Christian song … not that I have anything against Christians … but can YOU picture me singing Christian songs? Okay, maybe Pedro the Lion … but that’s different. He’s a Christian who HAPPENS to sing songs. Totally different.). What was I talking about?
