Fourth Of July Post Mortem
well, we tick off another slightly traumatizing Independence Day for the dogs. thankfully, that was really only the last few hours of the day. the rest of our day was spent laughing, eating and playing badminton on the lawn. we spent the day with our usual companions, my sister and Heff (names have been changed to protect the wicked) lounging on the deck drinking sun tea and Coronas. we kicked off the badminton season (a little late i might add) with a series of eight or so matches in which the boys undoubtedly killed us overall. the season is young though and my sister claims it was because she didn’t have her headband. apparently her dream from the night before of being Serena Williams had no bearing on real life. go figure.
we were together for a solid 7-8 hours of pure relaxation. there aren’t two other people we would rather spend that much time with. and during the day, the idea of what Independence Day is all about was not lost on me (or them i’m sure). i kept thinking about the soldiers overseas and the political climate. i was never for the war, but i am for the normal people who make a choice to commit to the military and the possibility of war. Mark wondered out loud whether the flags shouldn’t be at half mast for the Marine most recently murdered or for all those that have died in the war, not just for past presidents. and after sending many letters to our representatives and senators, i am also thinking about the proposed constitutional amendment regarding marriage. and thinking about freedom here in the good old United States.
and on to a quiet evening and the start of a short week.
