Feeling Much Better, Thank You
after a visit to the doctor on Friday, i left the office armed with a brown bag of goodies (i.e. free antibiotics and Nasonex). i was a little leery about the antibiotics, having had two severe allergic reactions from different medications prior. but so far, so good. i’m already feeling a bit better. not back to 100% but well enough to take in a relaxing Saturday afternoon matinee.
Mark is a big John Sayles fan and although i am not, i suggested we check out Silver City, his latest film. as with all of his movies, the cast is well placed and his usual suspects appear in central roles (Chris Cooper and Kris Kristofferson). i was glad to see Tim Roth make an appearance. i haven’t seen much of him lately and despite some off movies (Four Rooms), i still think he’s fantastic (Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead … not to be confused with the banknote makers). the movie is centered around Dickie Pilager, a dimwitted candidate running for governor of Colorado. backed by a rich, political figure father and an even richer corporate hog named Wes Benteen (who owns many corporations including the agribusiness Benagra, a nice nod to agri-giants Conagra). story sound familiar? although i found the ending to be a little over the top and unresolved (what did i expect? it is John Sayles after all). but, all in all i didn’t regret it. and i admit it had much more substances than our other movie option (Resident Evil).
and now i am enjoying the prospect of another evening spent indoors. no getting ready for anything, no times to be anywhere, no uncomfortable shoes. just another relaxing with Mark and the dogs.

I adore Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead! But you’re right, Four Rooms was seriously awful. While I don’t love all John Sayles films, Lone Star and Eight Men Out are favorites. Oh, and relaxing and recuperating seem to be the order of the day…and that is just fine by me.
