Encouragement Aplenty

my next goals are to purchase a new computer (not for myself, but for Mark) and to buy the Adobe Creative Suite for my laptop. i just installed it today at work and so far it works like a dream (well Illustrator CS at least). i’m looking forward to trying out InDesign as a replacement for Pagemaker. i have only used it once before but it seemed intuitive and a nice improvement.

these goals are a means for me to continue my effort to be more disciplined about being creative outside of work. i’ve always had motivation and drive for work life and now its time to use some of that towards my personal life. it sounds so easy and yet it has been hard for me to stay focused. this is where my friend (let’s call him Ben) comes in.

i met him a few years back while working at company here in Seattle. i’m not sure how it happened (that whole time period is such a whirlwind … or shall i say tornado) but eventually he became my boss. he was an executive at the company, but never exuded that type of bravado. he was always very calm and had encouraging words, direction and patience in his working relationships. there were certainly times when we both wanted to tear our hair out, but he was excellent at making it appear as if there was no reason to worry. i like to think we had an excellent working relationship. and now that i’ve been gone from that experience for a couple of years now, i’m glad that we still keep in touch. we don’t see each other often, but every now and then we chat and catch up to remind each other of our dreams and what really means the most to us. and for someone who spent alot of time hanging out with the tassel shoe set, i find that refreshing. so thanks … Ben … for being a specific type of good friend.

it almost makes me want to forgive him for relentlessly trashing the Wings.
