Ce Weekend

Posted on Sunday, April 25, 2004 in thoughts

i always hate Sunday nights because it means my weekend is drawing to a close. all in all, we had a fairly busy weekend.

late last week, we took the plunge and bought iLife specifically for Garageband. due to all of the reviews i’ve been reading about it (and the reasonable price) we bought it and a midi cable to connect the guitars to my Powerbook. i haven’t seen Mark since. Mark already has a Boss BR532 digital 4-track, but had been wanting to try out some software. we weren’t prepared for something as robust or expensive as Pro Tools, and Garageband seemed to fit the bill. so far, Mark gives it the thumbs up and is already looking forward to buying the $99 midi keyboard we tried out in the store. there are lots of loops and it is very easy to just figure it out on your own. Mark is very, very happy.

while Mark has been playing with his new toy, i had been re-reading the Lord Of The Rings. it’s reliable and when i’m lazy i revert to the old standards. however with lovely blue skies today and 80 degree weather, it hardly seems suitable for spring/summer reading. so, this weekend i started to read a book called The Design Of Sites: Patterns, Principles and Processing for Crafting a Customer-Centered Web Experience and so far so good. it’s half for work and half for my own personal interest. i am looking for ideas for putting together a nice website of my own as an alternative to my Typepad site. so far the book is laid out well and in color (which is always nice for a book about design). the topics are nicely arranged and it seems to be a very accessible read. i’m not sure i’ll be reading it from cover to cover, but it looks to be a good resource book.

besides reading, we had breakfast with a friend in Capital City (okay really called Capital Hill … but i defer to Simpsons influences) and then went to do a walk-through of our new house. the walk through was nice and strange at the same time. hard to believe that in about 30 days we will be living there. after all of that we made good on a promise to take Primo to the dog park both days this weekend with a trip to the Magnuson Off Leash park. he romped, he ran and ended the trip luxuriating in the dirt with his tongue hanging sideways out of his mouth. it’s one of his two favorite places in the world (the other would be in the bed). i can totally relate to this dog.

and that’s that for this weekend. hope your weekend was relaxing too!

  1. Cool beans re: Garage Band. Next time Heather and I are visiting, we can finally record the Dim Sum song we wrote at the EMP.

  2. Hey, thats cool….let me know how it goes with that - Kate and I are writing some Slowdive/MBV type stuff………bringing back the ’shoegazer’ sound……we’ve got 2 songs written.

  3. the Dim Sum song must be recorded. it can be the secret track.

so far Garageband is easier and less needy (no additional memory cards to buy, batteries or cords) than the Boss.
