cau¬?cus¬†(k?¥ks)n.
saturday is the long awaited Washington Democratic Caucus. and coincidentally it is also the Michigan Democratic Caucus. i don’t consider myself a Democrat per se, because i will vote for whomever i feel will do a good job. the Michigan Democratic Party is currently allowing online voting to all registered users up until 10am this Saturday. i’m surprised that the Washington Democratic Party hadn’t offered the option as well. it’s just as well, we are planning on going to caucus for our local precinct and i think that a big part of that is the actual interaction and participating rather than sitting in front of a computer. especially for people who sit in front of a computer all day, it can de-humanize the decision (at least for me).
i am bugging my family and friends about participating this weekend. they can attest to that. i promise after the 7th i’ll take it easy. between the KEXP harping and the caucuses i may just get voted off the island. that is, unless i’m willing to show some breast.

I want to attend a caucus. We don’t have those here in New York. It just sounds like a good time, democracy in action, and all that. Plus, it is fun to say. Probably because in my head it sounds a little dirty. Bonus!
“Hey friend, what are you doing tonight?”
“Me? Oh, I’m going caucusing. Hee hee.”

we were disappointed with the way our caucus went down. maybe it’s better if they are better organized or the groups are smaller. but over 500 people just didn’t work.
i agree with you starbody, we all should vote for the best candidate. it’s just that i have never seen it be a Republican. maybe if someone like John McCain is in your district and there isn’t a strong challenger. There were a couple of times in Canada where i thought the conservative candidate was better for our district than the liberal or socialist candidate, but back then most canadian conservatives were more liberal than many of today’s democrats. there were also times when i thought the communist candidate or minor third party candidate was the best choice.
last election down here i thought that the republican candidate was better than the weak democrat candidate they threw against him, but still we went with the democrat because things are so polarized in the states. but if there had been a third party candidate, we definitely would have swung that way.
