O Canada!

we did it. we managed to escape the city this past weekend for a full three days. Friday night was spent bowling with the rowdy kids, my sister and Heff spent the night and we planned on getting up early Saturday to drop the dogs and head up to the great white north. i had [...]

The Good, The Bad and Well … The Good

at the suggestion of Luke and fueled by the new functionality over at Netflix, i’ve been thinking about movies that are ‘downright terrible, but you like anyhow’. be warned. in no particular order:

The Thing Called Love - starring River Phoenix, Samantha Mathis, Dermot Mulroney and Sandra Bullock. set in Nashville and fairly cheesy but i [...]

The Swan (or Extreme Makeover)

it’s difficult to believe that we’ve only had Penny for 5 months. when we picked her up at Second Chance Ranch, she was emaciated, riddled with problems (ear infections, mites, mange from lack of nourishment) and not to mention stiiiiiinky! she weighed just over 40lbs. and now look at our girl? at last weighing she [...]

Spoooky

there’s nothing better than friends who love Halloween just as much as you do! IMed with H yesterday about our movie agenda and had a lovely conversation with D this evening. she gave me the tip on tons of old horror flicks she found in the dollar area at Target (an area i had dismissed [...]

Shocktober!

oh October, how i love your cool, crisp scents! in case you didn’t know (and why would you?) my rule for October is to exist on a strict diet of horror flicks.

Mark bought 28 Days Later for me while i was sick and we watched it immediately. last night i went to see Resident Evil: [...]

Holy Catacombs

the catacombs that lie beneath Paris are fascinating to me. i’d always wanted to visit. and apparently, i’m not the only one.
Police in Paris have discovered a fully equipped cinema-cum-restaurant in a large and previously uncharted cavern underneath the capital’s chic 16th arrondissement.
apparently, the area had been professionally electrically wired to power system. intrigued?

Seattle Bumperstickers

the winner of ‘the funniest political bumpersticker i’ve seen this week’ is:

close runners up:
“I wasn’t using my civil rights anyway.”
“Lick Bush and his Dick in 2004″
“Somewhere in Texas, a village is missing their idiot”
“Bush on Mars 2004″

Go See Garden State

go see Garden State and then go read Zach Braff’s blog. i had expected good things from this little movie after all of the good things i’d heard about it, but i hardly expected how subtly amazing it would be. when i left the theatre i had a feeling that i didn’t want to go [...]

Morbid Thoughts

went to see The Exorcist: The Beginning instead of seeing Garden State(which i will be seeing next weekend perhaps?). i have this unreasonable thing for horror movies. because of that i have to make certain concessions. there aren’t very many really good, really scary horror movies coming out these days so i have to lower [...]

Domain Woes

i’ve wanted to register the starbody.com domain name for quite a while now. however a Korean company owns it (although it hasn’t been used in several years) and will only sell it for $1500.00. not likely. so i’ve decided it’s time to get over it and select a new domain name. this is where you [...]

Before Sunrise

last night i watched Before Sunrise, a movie i have avoided for nine years due to an aversion to the dirty, greasy, scraggly look of Ethan Hawke (didn’t he just play that guy in Reality Bites?). that combined with having watched Richard Linklater’s Slacker was enough to keep me away.
i now see the error of [...]

Accidental Warhol & More

despite being ill for the better part of last week, i managed to recover (and finally pinpoint the source of my symptoms) in time for a trip we had planned to Vancouver to celebrate Heff’s birthday. Vancouver is such a sparkling, beautiful city and i had realized we had never actually visited during the summer. [...]

The Secret Window

i hesitate to place this under the ‘Visual Delights’ category, but will remain true to the generality of it. last night we watched The Secret Window with Johnny Depp and John Turturo. i had a feeling from the trailers that it would be bad. but, still i wanted to see it out of trust for [...]

Good Times For A Change

time again for me to change up the canned color scheme of this site. plowing through a book on PHP, Apache and MySQL that i am really enjoying. once we are settled in at the house, i am going to be trying my hand at a little PHP.
and speaking of change, on a more girly [...]

Film, Film, Film

last Thursday night we headed out for the opening gala of the 30th Seattle International Film Festival to see a screening of The Notebook, directed by Nick Cassavetes (son of guess who?). The movie is adapted from a bestselling novel i hadn’t read (or heard of for that matter) and was described as a “sweeping [...]

Sunday Browsing

so here i am, just innocently visiting a few of my regular reads. i hit the Impersonals and voila! there is Ms. Receptionista right on the front page as the Featured Profile. her profile is indicative of her smart wit so be sure to check her out. and while you’re there if you feel like [...]
