It’s A Beautiful Day

Posted on Friday, April 22, 2005 in thoughts

The weather is beautiful today, however, I don’t feel pressured to rush to some sort of outdoor activity. I’m perfectly fine viewing from inside today with a good book in hand. I need a moment of quiet after the past week of work, errands and other everyday concerns that seemingly piled up over night. Later, Mark is taking me to indulge in a bad movie. I’m fairly certain The Amityville Horror is not going to be very good, but I don’t mind. I saw the original when I was about 9 years old and it terrified me. To this day, I cannot rest my hand on those old window sills for fear of it slamming down on me. Honestly. I also have this memory of looking at a house with my parents that looked similar to the Amityville house and begging my mother not to move there. If it is any indication where I get this overactive imagination from, my mother agreed. Needless to say, I don’t expect to feel the same about this version.

Lest you think this is just another horror movie post, I’ll move on.

I’ve been working diligently on the promises I’ve made to myself about being more disciplined about creativity. It seems strange, I know. So far I have:

purchased a flat file and organized all of my art supplies

cleared off a space for myself in the spare bedroom

began a 6 week photography class at the Black Lab Gallery

installed Coppermine and moved my photos over to their new home

drafted a first version comp for new design for the Ibis site

I’m feeling pretty good about staying on track. Next milestone: seriously settling on a format for this site. I’m not sure Wordpress will power it forever. I am still thinking about trying Movable Type out. If anyone has used both and has any thoughts on either, please let me know.

p.s. Oh, I almost forgot I’m going to see U2 this weekend. I’ve never seen them before (and really stopped listening to them after Achtung Baby!) but they seem like one of those power bands that I should see at least once. They’re even old-folks tickets, VIP sort of area with food and cushy seats. Am I the same girl who braved a Helmet show armed with only Heather and my wits? I think so.

  1. Oh man….I want to take a 6 week photography class. I hope it goes well.

P.S. Watch out for demonic pigs.

  2. LOL! You know, they skipped the demonic pig and the hand squashing scene. They took quite a few liberties with the movie, but overall I liked it. It was scary and fun. But then again, I think the whole idea of it is scary regardless of whether it was really true!
