So This Is The New Year
aah, the requisite 2004 post. typically, i don’t go out on new year’s eve. it is less because i like celebrating the start of the new year and more because there are just usually lots of very obnoxious people out. but this year was quite different, owing partly to the luck of having a friend whose birthday falls on the 31st. our friend Ikke invited us to celebrate his 40th with a lovely evening of Moroccan fare at Marrakesh. having never had Moroccan food before, i did a little homework prior just to get a preview of what i could expect. the Seattle Weekly had an online review that in retrospect is pretty accurate. i love long leisurely dinners with plenty of friends and this one came complete with a belly dancer. the vegetarian couscous was delicious and the meal closed with a rinse of hands in rose water and the sweetest mint tea.
post Marrakesh, we headed over to the Rendezvous where our friend Celeste had rented the upper level for a private party. it was perfect as the downstairs area was packed. the upstairs was cozy with just the right amount of friends. Celeste had provided a champagne toast and party favors for the countdown. and at midnight a few people in tuxes had joined us, one of those people had a trumpet and played Auld Lang Syne. all in all, it was a lovely evening and a perfect way to ring in the new year!
